Following Uthman Bin Affan's Generosity: A Rich Merchant Who Promised Heaven

Uthman bin Affan Radhiyallahu anhu, was one of the leading companions who lived at the time of the Prophet . He is the son-in-law of the Prophet who has married his two daughters until he is dubbed as Dzun Nurain (owner of two lights), a person who has emigrated twice, and became the third Khulafaur Rashidin after Umar bin Khattab Radhiyallahu 'anhu.

Uthman bin Affan also became one of the companions who was guaranteed to enter heaven by the Messenger of Allah , it was even mentioned that he was a resident of heaven who lived on earth, which shows that he is an extraordinary friend and we must imitate.

One of his most famous qualities is generosity. He is one of the richest friends, and with the wealth he has, he has helped many Muslims.

Then what are the forms of generosity of Uthman bin Affan's friend?

1. Spend 300 camels and 100 dinars in the way of Allah

During the Tabuk war in 9 Hijri, the Companions experienced many difficulties in this war. It is even mentioned in a narration that at that time, the Companions had to survive by sucking one date and not eating it.

With such conditions, the Messenger of Allah advised his companions to donate to help the Muslims who were at war. In fact, the Messenger of Allah promised heaven for those who prepared the equipment for the Tabuk war troops at that time.

After hearing this, Uthman bin Affan Radhiyallahu 'anhu became one of the people who spent the most of his wealth. He spent 1000 dinars and 300 camels and their equipment in the way of Allah.

2. Ruumah Well Waqf

In Sahih Bukhari it is stated that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said: "Whoever buys the well of Ruumah, then his share of the water that he draws from it is like the share of water that the Muslims draw."

The Ruumah well is one of the wells located in the city of the Prophet . The well became one of the most important wells for the people of Medina at that time. Unfortunately, the well belongs to a Jew.

At that time, the Jews sold the well water at a high price and made the Muslims restless. Finally, the Messenger of Allah called his companions to buy this well for the Muslims, and promised paradise to those who bought the well.

After hearing the news, Uthman bin Affan immediately bought the well at a price of 20,000 dirhams, and he owned it in its entirety. After the well was fully owned by Uthman, he donated the well to the Muslims.

3. Sadaqah of merchandise in times of famine

Once upon a time during the caliphate of Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq Radhiyallahu 'anhu, the Muslims had experienced food shortages. And this opportunity is used by some traders to increase their sales.

At that time, came a trading caravan belonging to the friend of Uthman Radhiyallahu anhu which consisted of a thousand camels and their luggage containing food and wheat. Seeing this, the traders came to Uthman Radhiyallahu anhu to sell the merchandise to them, and they would sell it again in the market.

However, Uthman Radhiyallahu 'anhu refused all the offers, even though the traders had bid on their wares at many times the usual price.

This made the Medina traders surprised and asked, "We are traders from Medina (and already know each other), who is the trader who dares to promise greater profits than us?"

He replied, "Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives a higher and greater profit than you."

And finally he did not sell all the merchandise, and donated it for free to the Muslims in need.

Those are some of the stories of the generosity of Uthman bin Affan radhiyallahu anhu, whom the Prophet promised to go to heaven.

Let's give alms together as he did radhiyallahu anhu, without expecting praise or worldly rewards, but sincerely lillahi ta'ala and for the hereafter. And sure enough, Allah subhanahu wata'ala rewarded him with heaven that cannot be appreciated even with the world in its entirety.
